Why Choose Legacy Place?

Many of our Legacy Place residents, chose to live here because there is always something fun going on. Each week we have regularly scheduled activities such as book club, trips to the library or bingo. Each month features a special event such as a Halloween party, a visit from our favorite Elvis impersonator, or a Hawaiian luau with all of the trappings. In between are trips to the mall, sight seeing excursions or lunch at a new restaurant.

Meet Kelsey and Olivia

Wednesday, February 8, 2–4 PM

Legacy/ Pleasantview Admissions Office – Refreshments will be served

Olivia Castro - Hospital Liaison

As Hospital Liaison, Olivia will be visiting hospital case managers, community physicians and health care agencies in our local service areas to share information regarding potential admissions and resident care services provided at Pleasantview.

She will also review all new resident referrals and determine if the care and services needed by an individual can be provided by our home. In addition, she will also be visiting new residents in the hospital to learn more about their individual wants and needs.

Olivia is a graduate of Magnificat High School and studied health service administration at Ohio University. She interned at St. John Medical Center’s in their community outreach and materials management departments. Before coming to Legacy/Pleasantview, Olivia worked as an admissions coordinator at Manor Care, creating strong ties with the Fairview Park and Lakewood communities.

Olivia is a lifelong Clevelander. She started preschool in Parma at St. Bridget’s, and has remained linked to her Ohio roots during her entire educational journey. We are very happy to have her here with us!

Kelsey Kline - Admissions Assistant

As Admissions Assistant, Kelsey will be working closely with Barb Bandagski to ensure that a new resident’s experience coming into our facility meets and exceeds their expectations. She is a recent graduate of Cleveland State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences. As part of her studies, she co-oped at at Fairview Hospital in the Therapy Department.

Kelsey was vice-president of the occupational therapy club at Cleveland State. She also played on the club volleyball team as well as many other intramural teams. She grew up on Cleveland's far east side, but now lives in downtown Cleveland. We are happy to have her here as well!

Music and memory grant

Music and memories grant help dementia patients relax

The Ohio Department of Aging and the Office of the State Long-term Care Ombudsman, has awarded Pleasantview Care center a Music and Memory Grant.

Imagine being trapped inside your own body with your connections to memories and people you hold dear muddled, confused or inaccessible. For many Ohioans with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, this is their world.

Now, imagine that something as simple as a beloved song could change that - even if just for a moment.

Hearing a popular song from our teen years, a chant from a religious service or a familiar tune can be profoundly linked to personal memories. In fact, our brains are hard-wired to connect with long term memory - and this is no different for persons with severe dementia.

music and memories, dementia therepy

Reaching a resident with advanced dementia can often be difficult. With Music and Memory, our staff creates and provides personalized play lists on digital music players for residents, allowing them to reconnect with the world through memories triggered by the music they love.

If you would like to support the Music and Memory Program at Pleasantview Care Center, please contact:

Kris Leonard, Director of Activities and Volunteers at 440-887-4236.

We can use donated iPods, iTunes gift cards and volunteers to make the program an ongoing success. Kris would be super happy to provide more details about the program.

Over the past several months our music therapist, Lindsey Perl, MT-BC and activities staff member Kelly Pitman, ADC have participated in Music and Memory training sessions sponsored by the Ohio Department of Aging. They have both received certification of their training.

We have already received grant provided equipment for the program, including headsets and  iPods to launch this program for our residents with dementia - but we can always use more equipment and volunteers.

Learn more about this innovative new approach to dementia care at the Ohio Department of Aging’s website: http://aging.ohio.gov/services/music-memory/
